Imodium Original capsules help to restore your body’s natural rhythm.
For effective relief from diarrhoea – in just one dose. The capsules contain loperamide hydrochloride, a substance that helps reduce diarrhoea by slowing down an overactive bowel. This allows water and salts that are usually lost in diarrhoea to be absorbed by the body.

Ingredients
The active ingredient in Imodium Original 2mg Capsules is: Loperamide hydrochloride 2 mg per capsule. Other ingredients are: Lactose, maize starch, talc and magnesium stearate (E572). The capsule itself is made up of titanium dioxide (E171), black ferrous oxide (E172), yellow ferric oxide (E172), indigo carmine (E132), erythrosine (E127) and gelatin.
Usage Instructions
- Please ensure this medication is used in line with the manufacturer’s directions. Always read the label.
- Adults and children over 12 (Over 18 for Irritable bowel syndrome): Initially 2 capsules, then 1 capsule after each episode of diarrhoea.
- Do not take more than 6 tablets in any 24-hour period.
- For one episode – do not take for more than 2 days.
- For repeat episodes – do not take for more than 2 weeks.
- Speak to your doctor if symptoms last for more than 2 days.
Warnings and Precautions
Do not use:
- If under 12 or under 18 (for irritable bowel syndrome)
- If you are allergic to any ingredients contained in this medicine
- If you have severe diarrhoea after antibiotics
- If you are having a flare-up of an inflammatory bowel condition e.g ulcerative colitis
- If constipated or your stomach is swollen
- With acute dysentery
Speak to your doctor before using if:
- You have a medical condition, particularly liver disease or AIDS and your stomach is swollen.
- You have an intolerance to some sugars – Contains Lactose.
- Diarrhoea has persisted for over 48 hours.
- Severe diarrhoea
- You have recently travelled abroad.
- You have any other symptoms.
- If you are taking any other medication including ritonavir, quinidine, oral desmopressin, itraconazole, ketoconazole or gemfibrozil.
- If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or thinking about becoming pregnant.
- This medicine may make you feel dizzy, tired, or sleepy – do not drive, operate tools or machinery.

Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Common side effects:
- Feeling sick, constipation or wind.
- Headache
If you get any side effects, even if not listed, please talk to your doctor. Seek urgent medical attention of you suffer from an allergic reaction.
