Product Description
Canesten Thrush Combi Pessary & External Cream is a complete treatment for vaginal thrush because it treats both the internal cause and external symptoms. The pack contains a full course of treatment which consists of a single pessary with applicator to treat the cause of vaginal thrush and one tube of double strength cream to treat and soothe external thrush symptoms.
This product will help relieve your symptoms and treat your infection. The External thrush cream will help to soothe your symptoms such as itching.
Speak to your doctor before purchasing this product if it your first time having thrush.
Ingredients
Pessary:
The active substance is clotrimazole at a strength of 500mg. The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, lactic acid, maize starch, crospovidone, calcium lactate pentahydrate, magnesium stearate, colloidal anhydrous silica and hypromellose.
Cream:
The active substance is clotrimazole at a strength of 2% w/w. The other ingredients are benzyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan stearate, cetyl palmitate, cetostearyl alcohol, octyldodecanol and purified water.
Usage Instructions
Please ensure this medication is used in line with the manufacturer’s directions.
Women: The pessary should be inserted as high as possible into the vagina with the help of the applicator, preferably before going to sleep at night for convenient and comfortable treatment.
The cream should be thinly and evenly applied to the area around the entrance of the vagina, 2-3 times a day and smoothed in gently. It should be used until the symptoms of the infection disappear.
Treating your sexual partner: If your sexual partner is treated with this cream, the cream should be applied to the end of the penis 2 or 3 times a day for up to two weeks. Your partner may be treated with or without symptoms to reduce recurrent attacks.
The pessary is for use in the vagina only and the cream for external use only. Do not swallow.
The symptoms of thrush should disappear within three days of treatment.
Recurrent attacks of thrush: speak to your doctor especially if you have had more than two episodes in the past 6 months.
If you see no improvement after seven days since you started using Canesten Thrush Combi, you should tell your doctor.
Warnings and Precautions
This product may reduce the effectiveness of rubber contraceptives, such as condoms or diaphragms - use alternative precautions for at least five days after using Canesten Thrush Combi.
Avoid vaginal intercourse while you have thrush and during treatment with Canesten Thrush Combi because your partner may become infected.
Do not use:
- If you have an allergy to any of the ingredients.
- If you have not been previously diagnosed by your doctor as having thrush.
- During your period as it may be less effective.
- Tampons, intravaginal douches, spermicides, or other vaginal products while using Canesten Thrush Combi.
- If under 16 or over 60
Speak to your doctor before using if:
- You are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to have a baby.
- You are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. This includes tacrolimus or sirolimus.

Side effects
Like all medicines, Canesten Combi Pessary & External Cream can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
If you are allergic, a reaction will occur soon after you have used the medicine. Seek urgent medical attention.
If you get any side effects, even if not listed, inform your doctor.
